PRE-CONCEPTION CARE
If you are lucky enough to plan your pregnancy, you might be interested in getting your pelvis checked before you fall pregnant.
Why?
We check your pelvis for imbalances and fixations to get your body functioning at its best for pregnancy!
The weight of a baby is quite significant and has the potential to give you quite a lot of pain along the way if there is an underlying issues prior to pregnancy.
CARE FOR PREGNANCY
Congratulations!
Although we hope you are you glowing through your pregnancy, for many women, pregnancy can be very painful.
Ligament laxity, weight gain and shifts in the body's centre of gravity are some of the extraordinary changes that accommodate a growing baby. These changes can create joint discomfort, particularly in the low back and pelvis, and stress to soft tissues like muscles and ligaments.
Common conditions Chiropractic may help pregnant women with:
- Low back pain
- Pelvic pain
- Round ligament pain
- Bursitis
- Sciatica
- Pubic bone pain (pubic symphysis dysfunction)
- And much more
Chiropractic has been shown to be incredibly safe and effective to help manage musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain.
There is also lots of research to suggest women who see Chiropractors during their pregnancy have an association with shorter labour times and reduced risk of emergency intervention. While all of the benefits of Chiropractic have not been researched, clinically we see most women seeing a Chiropractor will find it much easier to perform day-to-day activities, like walk, sit, stand, drive or even play with their kids for longer!
CARE FOR THE POST-PARTUM PERIOD
For most women, this will be one of the most vulnerable periods in your entire life.
We are talking about sleep deprivation, hormone fluctuations, tissue healing, the full-time job of breast feeding and holding a baby... The changes to your body and routine during the post-partum period are incredible.
Your body undergoes a huge trauma during the birthing process, whether that be via a vaginal birth or c-section, both are very traumatic. Although most women are given great support for the first few weeks after birth, you are quickly expected to jump back into life and regular routine once your hubby returns to work.
We are here to support you through motherhood!
In a post-partum consult we talk a lot about your birth to gather more information about the areas of your body that have been damaged. Although Chiropractic adjustments are useful to restore optimal function to joints, rehabilitation exercises play a huge role in prevention of long-term damage and restoring your body to it's pre-baby state. We also address how we can best prepare your body for return to work, exercise and maybe even another child!
Common conditions we help mothers with:
- Neck pain and shoulder tension
- Headaches
- Low back pain
- Tailbone pain
- Diastasis recti (separation of the abdominals)
- Residual painful conditions from pregnancy
-Much more
When to come in?
Once you are settled at home with bub. Most women will be tender around the pelvis for the first few days after birth, this is completely normal. If your pain persists longer than a few days after birth, it may be worth booking in for a consult to begin treatment.
For women who have absolutely no symptoms, we recommend a check up at 10 days, 6 weeks and then 12 weeks post-partum.
CHIROPRACTIC FOR KIDS
Most people don't realise that Chiropractors treat children too!
If a child is in pain they can present with many symptoms such as irritability or excessive crying.
The birthing process can be very traumatic for some babies and quite often kids will accumulate injuries when learning to roll, crawl, stand, walk and run.
Chiropractic care is a very safe and effective means of helping children with musculoskeletal injuries.
For most babies we recommend a check at birth, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 8 months and 12 months, or when bub has any significant fall. Developmental milestones, primitive reflexes and postural reflexes are checked at these appointments to make sure your child's nervous system is functioning optimally.
For school aged children we recommend a check at least every 3 months (school holidays is a simple way for most parents to remember their child is due for a check).
